I was lucky enough to be part of a workshop by Connie Noyes held at Hampshire High School with 60 students and 6 other art teachers. She was very inspiring to allow High School students the chance to work freely using music as inspiration. I of course always paint to music but never as an intentional influence. I think this should be made more of a focus in my teachings, considering the number of students who can not go a moment with out thier headphones on. I will have to post pictures of my students work at a later time. But you must go to Connie's website to view her work and ideas relating to man and the world around us. Very Chicago!! I highly recommend going to this link to read her interview with Brian Sherwin who questions Connie on her working methods, her relationships with galleries, and what makes her an artist working abstractly. Alot of her work is done with resin, and other recydled materials; I personally love the one above whose other main element is beeswax.
Tord Boontje has always been one of my favorie artists. You have to go to this link to see his beautiful installation of winter wonderland. I am shopping for a new chandelier, I think this is perfect!!
Cassia Beck not only uses ttv photography for her sole purposes of photo making, but she truely gives it an antique look and victorian feel.
Deborah Fisher is a fantastic artist who has such smart compositions, using collage and image transfers. I love her birds of course.
Nick Volkert is such a talented artist, he does everything from painting, to graphic design, to web design. Of course his bird paintings are my favorite.
Sarah Nicloe Phillips has some whimsical canotypes and various prints. Not to mention some interesting work very Duchamp like. The snowmen are her underwater snowmen.
I stumbeled upon something called TtV Photography and it's a combination of digital and old school photography. I got so excited about it, I already bought a Duaflex camera and tried something with film and a point and shoot throw away camera, we'll see how that works.
Cheryl Chiappetta-Murray does such a great job at capturing children. Even when her subjects are not smiling they are still so happy. Check out her flicker site as well and see all of her tallents wich includes painting.
I love Alicia Tormey's wax encaustics because it's so similar to my work. Maybe I should start drawing and painting plants??
Jill Hubley I love how her painted images are delicately placed with her collage. it's beautiful and relaxing |
