These two artists worked together since 2005 taking images of "The Ruins of Detroit". These are some of the most beautiful images I have ever seen! Here is Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre's website.
"Ruins are the visible symbols and landmarks of our societies and their changes, small pieces of history in suspension. The state of ruin is essentially a temporary situation that happens at some point, the volatile result of change of era and the fall of empires. This fragility, the time elapsed but even so running fast, lead us to watch them one very last time : being dismayed, or admire, making us wondering about the permanence of things. Photography appeared to us as a modest way to keep a little bit of this ephemeral state." Magda Nikx Wasiczek has these amazing photographs that look so amazing that they have to be photoshoped, but they are not. Just beautiful photograhps. Here is her real site in Polish
In light of Osama bin Laden's death, I felt it was appropriate to revisit an inspirational artist, who crosses over to all ages and time. Dan Eldon's journal pages are currently on exhibit, and I had not seen these before, so I felt I needed to share Dan Eldon again. This is the video I show along with him also, which says anything so much better than I can.
Bethany de Forest has always been a favorite artist of mine, so it's about time I poster her. Love the color she captures. I also love the beautiful color, and the endless space she achieves in her images. Her "meat" creations are pretty cool too. Her website gives you a ton of pop ups however, so here is another link as well.
Dolan Geiman is now my new favorite artist. His constructions are so simple yet soo refined. I love his use of recycled materials and fun spirit. Once originaly from Virginia, he now lives in Chicago, no wonder I love his style: country with modern appeal. Most of his work is made from recycled wood, paper, and paint. I love the way he used old paint sticks in his circular piece.
Bethanie Holley is the co-owner of my new favorite store, "The Rusty Bucket" located in downtown Spooner Wis. If you are up there this summer, you have to go, she has such cute stuff, and very reasonably priced (way better than the Kane County Flea Market) My son loves this truck, I may have to buy it. Her bird houses are very inventive and you can see more pictures on her flickr site.
Ryan Tischer is an artist from the Duluth MN area who was recommended to me by a Hayward teacher and artist, Mike Jorgenson. Love his rock photos; the colors and textures are great!
I found Kerrera Skye on Etsy.com and I love her stuff. I love it that handmade knit apparel is becoming so trendy. Her real name is Shirley, but could not find a complete profile. However, here is the link to her blog.
I love Cheryl Ann Thomas's ceramic work. They are so delicate and organic, and I love that the white of the porcelin is left as is. I could not find her personal website, but did find this new cool site where she is featured in (Artslant)
What a great name Jonathan Mess is. I found this artist not too long ago, and he is now a new favorite! I love his comparisons of clay to the earth, using recycled materials to do so. I find his wall tiles the most inspiring, where he utilizes cardboard to create his work. I have always been a fan of cardboard! His website is great, with lots of pictures and statements. Jonathan Mess has even spent two months on a commission for a Mill, those pictures are great as well. I also love his squares, which I show last, I think it is a great idea for a class assignment. These are cardboard, clay, and glaze stains, which make up his wall tiles. These are his "Landfills" which are masses of clay and glaze, all layered together and fired! Wouldn't these make such great class assignments? These are mixed media too! His "soilders" are a little disturbing, but I still love them just the same. I am not sure exactly what all of them are made from, but if I had to guess, I'd say water bottles.
